Breyer's 98% Fat Free No Sugar Added Chocolate Fudge Brownie Ice Cream

I made a discovery in the grocery store yesterday (Ralph's, for those of you on the west coast): Breyer's 98% Fat Free, No Sugar Added Chocolate Brownie Ice Cream. I was doing that label-reading cha-cha through the frozen food aisle in search of something indulgent, yet not point-smashing. By george, I do believe I've found it.

Now, I'm not going to bullshit you here. It's not Haagen-Daz. It's no Godiva. But, in the world of "diet" ice cream, it's pretty damn good. I'm not even a big fan of "chocolate brownie" flavored things. (I don't really care for the Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Brownie frozen yogurt.) But, the glory of this product that makes you look past the fact that it's not any of these decadent-types: it's only one point per half-cup serving. One point. ONE.

Yeah, one point. I did a little jig right there next to the waffles, I swear to god.

Usually, I prefer something self-contained to control my portions; novelties like Smart Ones ice cream bars and cones or Skinny Cow Sandwiches. But, it seems like the Skinny Cows are slowly increasing in price. What used to cost me $3.99, has scooted up to $4.79 and yesterday, they were $5.19! So, now I only buy Skinny Cows when they're on sale or I have a coupon. And honestly, there's only so many Skinny Cows one can eat. I'm a little burned out. (Though, it I could find the coffee-flavored ones here, I might be a little more excited about them.)

So there you go. If you have Breyer's brand ice cream in your area, check out this flavor. They have other flavors, too, though they're limited. The 98% Fat Free chocolate and vanilla are both only one point, but there are other variations, like a 2% Light Vanilla and some other "All Natural Light" varieties that are 2 and 3 points a serving, so make sure you read the package carefully. I like that their site labels the Weight Watchers points per serving -- that's handy.

Texture is good... not really gritty like some light ice creams. The depth of flavor, the richness... that's not bad either. Again, it's not Haagen-Daz, but it hits the spot when you're having a chocolate fit. I give Breyer's 98% Fat Free, No Sugar Added Chocolate Brownie Ice Cream four whole donuts. In terms of light ice cream, you're getting a lot of bang for your "buck", so to speak.
